Hypnotherapy is a scientifically verified technique that can be extremely powerful in promoting rapid change. It is very versatile and therefore has a broad application from helping someone to stop smoking, to enhancing professional performance.

Hypnotherapy when combined with NLP is arguably the fastest and most efficient tool for producing profound and lasting change developed to date.

What’s it like?

Unfortunately, due to stage hypnosis shows some common myths have arisen surrounding hypnotherapy, which is totally different from stage hypnosis. Please see ‘What to Expect’.

In actual fact hypnosis is a natural state that you go in and out of every day. Just before you fall asleep, when you get ‘lost’ in a film or a book, when you ‘zone out’ at the gym. All of these familiar states are levels of trance. The difference with hypnotherapy is that you are accessing trance deliberately and with a specific purpose in mind.

How does it work?

Hypnotherapy deals directly with the subconscious mind to change thought patterns and behaviour. As you can see from the iceberg diagram, the subconscious mind is responsible for much of human behaviour and is recognised as containing wisdom and a deep level of intelligence.

conscious vs subconscious mindScientific studies have shown that under hypnosis the left analytical side of the brain significantly reduces in activity whereas the intuitive, creative right side of the brain shows an increase in activity. This would account for the increase in intuitive insight and problem solving ability often experienced in during hypnosis.

By quieting the conscious mind, the hypnotherapist is able to gain access to the subconscious mind and to help to facilitate the changes requested by the client.

Conditions treated

The potential therapeutic applications for hypnotherapy are endless. Below is a list of common uses:

  • Weight loss
  • Smoking cessation
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Confidence
  • Stage fright
  • Migraine headaches
  • Insomnia
  • Fears and Phobias
  • Motivation
  • Procrastination
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder)
  • Interview confidence
  • Relationship issues
  • Sexual issues

In a corporate environment

Although hypnotherapy is not often associated with use in the corporate world where Life Coaching, Executive Coaching and NLP are more widely used, it can be a very useful addition to a Coach’s tool kit in terms of its effectiveness in enhancing confidence and performance and also in relieving stress and conflict in the work place. Considering that the single most common cause of absence from work is stress, it is likely that the use of hypnosis in this area will become increasingly more popular.
